Libreville, Gabon – 16-17 February 2026
The Executive Committee of the Consortium of African Funds for the Environment (CAFÉ) has concluded a strategic meeting in Libreville, Gabon, hosted by the Gabon Biodiversity Preservation Fund.
The Executive Committee is a 7-member body comprised of representatives of 7-member Conservation Trust Funds (CTFs) from 7 different African countries, and is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the network. Its meeting in Libreville focused on strengthening the foundation and future direction of the network as well as African CTFs.

Over two days, members reviewed progress on key decisions, assessed institutional performance, and discussed priorities for the year ahead. Central to the agenda were issues of governance, donor credibility, financial sustainability, and strategic partnerships. The discussions were practical and solution-oriented, reinforcing the network’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and long-term impact.
Preparations for the 16th CAFÉ General Assembly, scheduled for 28 September to 2 October 2026 in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, were also advanced, reinforcing coordination and fostering deeper collaboration among Conservation Trust Funds across Africa.
As environmental pressures grow, CAFÉ’s leadership remains focused on building strong institutions and mobilising sustainable finance to protect Africa’s natural heritage. The Libreville meeting reaffirmed the network’s determination to strengthen conservation financing systems that benefit both nature and communities.
CAFÉ extends its appreciation to the Gabon Biodiversity Preservation Fund for its warm hospitality and continued commitment in advancing conservation finance in Africa.
